Please read "Mapping the Margins," by Kimberlé Crenshaw.

This series is facilitated by Mark Brimhall-Vargas, PhD, Chief Diversity Officer and Vice President for Diversity, Equity & Inclusion.

The Faculty Diversity Discussion series sponsored by the CTL and the Chief Diversity Officer will specifically focus on Dr. Crenshaw’s foundational article on Intersectionality called “Mapping the Margins: Intersectionality, Identity Politics, and Violence against Women of Color.” Dr. Crenshaw’s article is lengthy and nuanced in its approach to intersectionality. Since it was written, the term “intersectionality” has become altered and, in some ways, overly simplified. On October 10 we will re-engage this work to rediscover the many forms of intersectionality that Dr. Crenshaw theorizes and demonstratesOn October 24, we will hear directly from Dr. Crenshaw during her residency on campus
