Intro to LLMs and High Performance Computing in the Humanities and Social Sciences In-Person

Join us for conversation about Large Language Models and how BDI can help you understand them. We will 1) explain what an LLM in in basic terms 2) show real examples of LLM research, particularly in the Humanities and Social Sciences. We will show you the High Performance Workstation, and explain how current Brandeis students, faculty, and staff are using it -- and how to get you started! This workhorse is pushing the boundaries of Brandeis research in areas like geospatial analysis, text analysis, digital archives, linguistic modeling, and visualization. Whether you’re working with large datasets, curious about AI-assisted research and whether it's for you, or just want to see what’s possible beyond your laptop, this session will show you how to get started. No previous experience or knowledge about LLMs is necessary, but individuals with any level of knowledge will still find this workshop useful because we'll also go over BDI's curriculum for High Performance Computing and Agentic work.

FYI this event is about the new High Performance Workstation housed in the Digital Scholarship Lab. This is a separate service, unrelated from Brandeis' High Performance Computing Cluster.
