Workshop: Do Students Still Need to Have Original Ideas? Teaching Brainstorming in the Age of AI In-Person / Online

Many AI policies allow students to use generative AI for brainstorming and idea development while restricting its use during the actual writing process. But what happens when AI helps generate the very ideas students are meant to develop? Are we encouraging efficiency at the expense of curiosity, reflection, and creativity? Join Adam Beaver (Center for Teaching and Learning) and Katrin Fischer (University Writing Program/First-Year Seminars Program) for a workshop exploring the value of independent brainstorming and practical strategies for helping students develop ideas, ask meaningful questions, and engage more deeply in the writing process beyond generative AI.
