MakerLab Fixit Clinic - Celebrating World Useability Day at Brandeis!

MakerLab Fixit Clinic - Celebrating World Useability Day at Brandeis! In-Person

In conjunction with World Usability Day, Brandeis MakerLab is hosting our semi-annual Fixit Clinic - come join us to make something more usable by fixing it!

Do you have anything in need of repair and aren't sure how to get started? A cracked phone screen? A broken zipper? A wonky bike? Come to the Brandeis Fixit Clinic! This community event will help you on your repair journey. Volunteer fixit coaches from the BDI team, the new engineering program, and across the university will help you learn to diagnose the issues, figure out a repair strategy, and even possibly complete the fix. Everyone is welcome to attend, and if you want to volunteer as a coach, no expertise is needed, just enthusiasm!

Please sign up via this google form if you'd like to help coach OR if you plan to bring an item to be fixed!

We'll have a lot of tools on hand, including hand tools, electronics repair equipment, sewing machines, and adhesives of various kinds. We also have access to the 3D printers, which means we can replace missing or broken parts! We can handle almost any item, including: bikes, skateboards, and other wheeled vehicles; clothing, textiles, and other fabric items; computers, phones, and personal electronics; toys and wooden objects; kitchen and dorm-room appliances; small electrical devices; jewelry; and anything else*.

*Carry in only: no oversized items. Also no dangerous items please (e.g. gasoline engines, weapons of any kind, etc.).

Fixit Clinic is an all-ages, do-it-together activity where people bring their broken household things and learn how to assess, disassemble, and repair them instead of sending them to landfill. For more information, go to www.fixitclinic.org.
